Prairie Paws Animal Shelter provides many animal related services, and does many fundraisers to meet expenses, but it’s still not quite enough. Prairie Paws Executive Director Melissa Reed told the Franklin County Commission that they must make a choice when it comes to the 2021 budget.

Reed says she needs to know if the county commission wants to pay an approximately $46,000 more to help cover the stray program, she says if the commission doesn’t want to provide the additional money, then dropping the stray program would be an option. Although, she wants to hear any suggestions they have. Reed says if the county can pay the extra money, her shelter would still have to raise about another $46,000 to cover the cost of picking up and caring for stray animals out in the county.
