Once a high school student graduates, does that mean the end of the road as far as education or career skills are concerned? This was one topic, among many, that came up during a recent meeting between State Senator Caryn Tyson and Ottawa School District officials. High School Principal Kelly Whittaker says many students feel trapped:
The meeting came about as a result of Tyson making a comment, at a Legislative Coffee, that most school districts in Kansas lack proper information technology programs. The comment drew a response from School Superintendent Dr. Ryan Cobbs, who challenged Tyson to come see what the Ottawa District has to offer. Tyson took up the challenge by saying that Ottawa is not the norm in terms of computer education, because it is one outstanding exception among many school districts who do not have sufficient offerings.
