This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas. Severe weather kills more people in the United States than any other form of weather.  On average, flash floods result in 27 deaths a year.  Why?  Because people think they can drive or walk through flowing water.  It only takes six inches of quickly flowing water to knock you off your feet and less than two feet of water can float your car.  National Weather Service Meteorologist, John Woynik:

Ottawa knows all about flash floods and flooding.  The flooding in Ottawa on, August 1st, after nearly 12 inches of rain was devastating to many Ottawa residents, causing major damage to businesses and housing.  The roads in our County are still being repaired from damage caused by repeated flooding last year.  Many roads were completely washed out.  Remember, Turn Around, Don’t Drown
