More cancellations coming in due to fears over the coronavirus. Kansas and Missouri Special Olympics Organizations have cancelled upcoming events due to the national spread of the coronavirus.
The Special Olympics in Kansas posted on their Facebook page Monday stating that they will be canceling their State Basketball and Cheer in Topeka this weekend and in Hays next weekend. Special Olympics officials released a statement to the athletes saying they realize all the hard training they have been through, but their health is most important, encouraging them to focus on healthy habits so their skills can be showcased with their friends and families in the near future. All young athlete programs scheduled for March 9-23, local team practices scheduled for March for the same time and the KU Unified Basketball Championship Game scheduled for March 19th have also been cancelled.
Special Olympics Missouri also cancelled their State Indoor games scheduled for March 21st and 22nd.
