The Ottawa school district has been working on fixing certain behaviors in the elementary schools, really looking at social, emotional and academic behavioral problems. They have administered a risk screener for those behaviors, called saebers to evaluate students overall general behavior and check for social, emotional and academic problems that they may have. From there, school can implement strategies that fit students need. It’s working, but USD 290 special education director Josh Robinson says they can’t do it all
He added that they plan to hire an additional social worker to work with middle school and high school students
