Many schools in Kansas are on Spring Break this week, including Ottawa Schools, were scheduled to return this week. Not any more! Kansas State Department of Education Commissioner, Randy Watson, has “strongly recommended” that all Kansas School Districts close this week. In a news conference last night, Governor Laura Kelly says State Officials will spend the week coming up with a plan to keep our children, teachers, and communities safe:
When class is allowed to resume, Commissioner Watson asks that schools implement a plan to increase surface cleanings throughout the school day, increase modeling and teaching of hygienic coughing and sneezing procedures and increase hand washing by students throughout the day. In addition the department of education reminds parents that when school resumes, do not send kids to school with a fever. As by Kansas statute, students must be fever free for 24 hours, without medications, before returning to school.
