Back in early February we told you about a Spring Hill teen with a rare lung disease awaiting a double lung transplant. She moved to Saint Louis, near the children’s hospital and literally just waited for “the phone call”. That call came Wednesday night and Thursday 16-year-old Ali Berkey underwent a 15 hour surgery to get a new pair of lungs. The COVID-19 threat is affecting the operation, as it is a respiratory disease. The hospital has taken major steps in preventative measures. These measures, while in Ali’s best interest, are sad measures. Ali can’t have any visitors until a quarantine is lifted.

The surgery was a huge success and the recovery process has begun.  With a million dollars price tag not including a lifetime of medication, doctors visits and more. Fundraisers have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but you can still help. The family asks that anyone who would like to help, make a donation to the children’s organ transplant association, or (coat-a), who assist kids that need lifesaving transplants
