Area Dairy Producers are urging local grocery outlets to stop putting limits on the amount of milk a person can buy. Why? They are being forced to dump thousands of gallons of milk because of a perceived shortage. The Kansas Dairy Association says signs posted on coolers are misleading the consumer and lead them to believe there is a shortage, when there is not. They believe the signs being posted at the dairy case are a result of trying to stop hoarding of food.
Dairy Farmers of America says it has assured retailers there is not shortage of fluid milk.
Responding to concerns raised by Dairy Producers, many retailers in Kansas have either stopped restricting milk sales or only apply restrictions to curbside pickups. The dairy association says if you experience stores limiting the amount of dairy shoppers may purchase, ask to speak with a manager to express you disappointment.
