The Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council voted yesterday 3-2 to overturn Governor Kelly’s Executive Order restricting church gatherings to 10 or fewer people. The Council says the order was unconstitutional. Earlier in the day, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, issued a statement telling law enforcement across the State not to enforce it. The Council says this means the order is either unenforceable and therefore of no protection to the public’s health, or if it is enforced, and intolerable breach of our Citizens’ Constitutional Rights.
Representative Blaine Finch says he knows the State has an obligation to protect the Health and Safety of the Citizens, and he fully supports legal efforts to do so through social distancing guidelines, the Statewide Stay At Home Order, and the other precautionary orders.
He also urges Kansans thinking about going to Church is weekend, not to do so and protect the health of their family and the people around them.
Many churches around the State have already taken steps to protect their congregations by broadcasting, live streaming, using drive up services and other creative solutions.
