We know some of the restrictions taking place in our area due to the COVID 19 crisis, but what about other countries? There are a lot of former Ottawans living in areas around the world that have been hit hard by the coronavirus. One person who grew up in Ottawa in the late 1970’s, lives in Turkey. They say the Country has just recently realized it had a problem. The person says they wish to remain anonymous and says the Turkish leader had resisted calls from Doctors to stop going to work and stay home, saying the economy has to keep turning. However, just a couple weeks ago the Turkish President did urge people to stay home. They add that other government actions are beginning to take effect. I was referred to TRT World, a Turkish news channel for information.
This former Ottawan says Turkey has also suspended International flights, border crossings and they closed schools and some shops. Turkey is building two new temporary hospitals in the city to receive the expected influx of COVID 19 patients. Turkey has also started mass production of ventilators.
