It was a weekend for police chases. Two separate chases in Franklin County landed two men in jail. The first was Friday, early afternoon. A California man, 38 year old Kevin Keepers of California was finally stopped by Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies just south of 175th Street in Gardner. He was driving a 1989 Winnebago and was arrested for Felony Fleeing and Eluding after leading authorities on a 16 mile pursuit before being taken into custody.
The other started Friday afternoon in Ottawa. An Ottawa Police Officer attempted to stop a Chevy truck on the ll00 Block of Ohio Road about 4:30 in the afternoon. When it fled, Franklin County Deputies located the truck in the 3200 block of Cloud Road and initiated another pursuit. The driver, 41 year old Jason Smith of Kansas City, lost control of the truck in the 1100 block of Ohio Road and rolled over. Smith was arrested for Felony Flee and Eluding, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of Paraphernalia and Driving While Suspended.
