Another casualty of the Coronavirus! Garnett Summer Baseball and Softball has been cancelled. Following a meeting between the East Central Kansas Baseball League and the Twin Rivers Softball League, consisting of representatives from Ottawa, Princeton, Richmond, Garnett, Greeley, Parker, La Cygne, Mound City, Osawatomie, Paola and Louisburg, last week to discuss the Summer Season. After much discussion of the pros and cons of having a season due to Executive Orders relating to COVID 19 Guidelines, the Board Members voted 7 – 4 against playing this season. Those voting to play the season were Louisburg, Ottawa, Paola and Richmond.
With this vote, the City of Garnett will cancel the 2020 Summer Baseball Season. Everyone who has registered for the Garnett Recreation Summer Ball Program will receive emails regarding refunds. The Garnett Parks and Recreation Department is planning to offer different programming: camps and activities, to make up for the loss of the Summer Ball Season. That work is in progress on those options and information will be released later.
