A planned Rally on Race Relations at the Ottawa City Park Friday evening is drawing a lot of interest, and apprehension. The Ottawa City Commission has welcomed the Rally as a way to address the problem of Racial Injustice. During the regular Commission Meeting, City Attorney, Blaine Finch, answered a question from Commissioner Eric Crowley on what would happen if the Commission wanted to stop the rally:
Finch sys a Government Entity can establish reasonable rules such as preventing the Rally from impeding traffic, but to try to stop it because the Commission didn’t like the purpose of the Rally would be unconstitutional. To be clear, the City Commission has indicated no interest in interfering with the Rally as long as it remains peaceful.
