Some slight changes in the rally planned in Ottawa tomorrow night. The event will take place at City Park, it will begin at 6:00 in the evening, where the group will meet at the Carnegie Cultural Center. They will conduct a quick march around City Park, then will meet at the Band Shelter, where there will be guest speakers from the Ottawa area. One of the organizers spoke to the City Commission yesterday about the rally. Natalie Maxhimer says they are printing a flyer to give to Downtown Businesses providing details of the rally and she insists the rally will be peaceful:
According to the Groups Facebook Page, the rally was moved to City Park only to make it more inclusive and safer for everyone, as well as take some weight off the shoulders of Business Owners of having a march down Main Street. The event is billed as one that everyone is welcome to attend and help in support of making strides towards racial equality.
There will be four speakers at the event: Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, Former Ottawa Mayor, Richard Jackson, Lacey Knight, who grew up in Ottawa, Dorzell Owens, a local resident and Taya Hickman, former Student Body President at Ottawa University.
