The Miami County Sheriff’s Department has identified the man who drowned at Hillsdale Lake. The body of 65 year old Richard Bangs of Spring Hill, was recovered shortly after noon yesterday, about 2,000 feet off shore in 27 feet of water. Garmin International was called to assist due to the number of trees and debris under water, as well as zero visibility. They utilized specialized underwater equipment and were able to help locate the body and guide divers to recover it.
A caller reported he saw Bangs fall out of his boat while trying to tie it to a tree late Tuesday afternoon and never came back up. There is no foul play suspected and the case continues to be investigated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
