When the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL unveil their new uniforms soon, Anderson County can claim they had a role in their design. The uniforms were designed and produced by Nike, whose lead designer just happens to be from Anderson County. Jason Wright grew up near Garnett and credits his dad for leading him to his creativity. His interest in design led him to draw his own versions of Kobe Bryant shoes among other things and his sophomore year at Anderson County High School, he won a shoe design competition. He received an email from the designers at Nike, encouraging him to pursue his talents.
Jason went on to Kansas State University and earned a degree in graphic design. He went to work for a company in Kansas City and he says “out of the blue” got a call from a Nike staffer who had seen his work and wanted to interview him for a Nike position. That was in 2015. Today, he is a senior designer with Nike with responsibilities for collegiate and professional products. He travels all over the world for his job.
Jason says one of his favorite projects was the opportunity to design throwback jerseys for K-State. He says his goal is to make uniforms that make the players feel good and perform at a high level. He says he greatly appreciated the area he grew up in and says it shows anyone from anywhere can make their dreams come true.
