A project to improve sidewalks and other items at First & Walnut has provoked debate over whether the low bidder should get the project. The City Staff has recommended RFB Construction of Pittsburg, Kansas, who bid the project for a little over $60,000. The next higher bidder was Killough Construction at over $86,000. One local businessman had a public comment at the regular City Commission Meeting. Kevin James owns James Automotive, which will be affected by the construction, says he would like to see a local company get the job, even though at a higher price:
After extended discussion, City Commissioners voted to award the project to RFB Construction. The work is being funded with money from the Recreational Trails Grant.
