The numbers in the USDA’s latest report on cattle feedlots are generally higher than most industry analysts expected. The number of cattle in feed lots of 1,000 head or greater in September was just under 11.4 million head, about 3.8% above a year ago. The numbers are the highest inventory level since 1996. This may be due to dry conditions in many areas.
