Word from the city staff that the sales tax revenue in Ottawa has gone up rather dramatically the past couple months, was good news for City Commissioners. With Ottawa showing the best two months in quite some time, Mayor Tom Weigand says it displays a great example:
The tax revenue bump was attributed to people staying home out of concerns about COVID in surrounding areas, such as Lawrence or the Kansas City areas. Commissioners expressed the hope that the trend would continue and local shoppers would continue to stay local.
