The Ottawa Fire and Franklin County EMS were called to 521 North Locust, the Ottawa COOP storage area, adjacent to Forest Park, this morning about 9:30 for a person caught in a grain auger. Upon arrival, crews found a male victim inside a very large grain bin with his foot caught in a grain auger. After shutting of electricity to the bin, firefighters and EMS personnel made entry. Personnel had to conduct a prolonged technical extrication of the victim’s lower leg from the auger system. Once the victim was removed from the auger, he was transported, in critical condition, to Advent Ottawa for treatment. Ottawa Fire remained on scene for Incident Safety and Stabilization. Emergency crews were assisted by Ottawa COOP personnel who were familiar with the facility and operation of the equipment.

No information is available at this time on the condition of the man, or if he remains at Advent Health Ottawa.
