A Federal Grant of over $900,000.00 from the USDA will benefit Franklin County Schools.

Kansas Senator Jerry Moran announced this morning that the Grant from the Department of Agriculture’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants will help create new learning opportunities for students in rural Kansas to pursue careers in STEM fields and then invest those skills and talents back into their communities, helping meet the workforce demand in southeast Kansas.

This Grant will extend science, technology, engineering and mathematics, known as STEM classes, to underserved areas in rural southeast Kansas and will enable Neosho County Community College to create new STEM Distance Learning capabilities in Chanute and Ottawa, to serve surrounding rural areas, including Franklin County and Neosho County Schools, especially with increased Allied Health courses needed to improve residents’ health and to decrease out-migration.
