Governor Laura Kelly was in Osawatomie this week for the Ribbon Cutting for the newly opened Trailhead or Eastern Terminus of the Flint Hills Trail at the southwest corner of the Karl E. Cole Sports Complex. She stressed the importance of public access to trails, parks and other green spaces and the key role in growing Economic Development Opportunities in Kansas, and also noted increases in business:

Thanks to Larry Byers for the audio of the Governor’s remarks. Secretary of Commerce, David Tolan, and Secretary of Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Brad Loveless, also spoke at the event.

Former State Senator from Osawatomie, Doug Walker, who was key in the development of the trail, unveiled a covered sign at the Trailhead and, to his surprise, Milepost zero had been named Walker Station to honor is work to make the trail a reality on the Osawatomie End.
