USD 289, schools in Wellsville, were placed under lockdown early yesterday afternoon. According to a letter posted by Superintendent Ryan Bradbury, a written message was discovered in the afternoon at Wellsville High School, that contained a threat about a possible active shooter. The school building was immediately locked down and the Wellsville Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were contacted and were onsite within a few minutes of the discovery. Law Enforcement personnel, along with USD 289 personnel, conducted a thorough search of the facility. Detectives conducted interviews and examined the recovered evidence. After an initial investigation, it was determined that students would be able to be released as scheduled, and were, without incident.
In a media release, the Wellsville Police say USD 289 and County Law Enforcement consider the safety and security of students, staff and the public to be paramount and they will continue to work together to investigate the incident.
