If you see the flood gates closed over the Main Street Bridge in Downtown Ottawa early this morning, don’t worry, you didn’t miss a huge rain storm or some big storm surge coming up the Ol’ Mary because, you know, it is 2020. Who knows, right? The gates over the river will be closed for a short time this morning starting about 5:00. The City of Ottawa will be going through a periodic Levee Inspection from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers this week. As part of the inspection process, the flood gates across Main Street will need to be closed for a short time. the plan is to close the gates for inspection and have them open before businesses open Downtown so there is no disruption of traffic during normal business hours. A detour will be set up to help people navigate their way across the river.
