A fire at a downtown restaurant Saturday night, apparently went unnoticed, but caused significant damage to equipment in the kitchen. The Ottawa Fire Department was notified Sunday morning by employees at Luigi’s Restaurant at 127 South Main, of the fire in the kitchen. Ottawa fire crews, upon arriving at the scene, were met by employees who stated that the fire protection hood system has extinguished the fire in the kitchen over night. In a media release, Ottawa Fire confirmed that there was a significant fire in the kitchen area. The fire damage was contained to the stove and grease hood system located within the kitchen. The investigation is ongoing, and the preliminary damage assessment has been determined to be approximately $50,000 for damage and cleanup.
