Two candidates are vying for the 2nd District, Anderson County Commission Seat. Incumbent Jerry Howarter was born and raised in Anderson County. He was an educator and coach for 41 yoars, he serves on numerous committees within the county, including the I-69 Corridor Coalition, the Anderson County Economic Development Committee and Veterans Memorial Committee. He sees COVID and the construction on I-69 highway as the major concerns right now and believes that to build a stronger, more cohesive community, everyone must work together, not against, each other.
His challenger is Anthony Mersman. He has worked for over 30 years building a variety of important infrastructure buildings, hand in hand with City Inspectors, owners and subcontractors. He says he has seen how tax dollars are spent and thinks there can be improvements in that area. He says he believes that wind energy may be the future for energy needs as nuclear energy is phased out. He says he would like to implement a new strategy when it comes to improving county roads and making them better.
Early voting is going on at the County Courthouse until Monday at noon. The General Election is Tuesday. Polls are open from 7:00 in the morning till 7:00 in the evening.
