The Paola City Council Ward 4 Seat is up for grabs today, as incumbent Aaron Nickelson faces challenger Leanne Shields, who is a former member of the City Council. Nickelson says his priorities include updating the City of Paola’s Comprehensive Plan, which includes the promotion and utilization of Paola’s Development and Tax Incentives, Neighborhood Revitalization Plan, Enterprise Zones, and Infrastructure Investment Zones.
Shield is a lifelong Paola resident and served on the City Council from 2002 to 2006. Her priorities include Paola Crossings, a new development at Baptiste and Hedge Lane and believes the City needs to make sure developing the infrastructure within the City; like streets, alleys, sewers and water lines is a priority. She is also concerned about internet connectivity and says cable companies need to be held accountable and more competition is needed.
