The election two weeks ago ousted a two term Anderson County Commissioner in favor of a newcomer. Anthony Mersman of Greeley, upset Jerry Howarter in the County’s 2nd District, pulling 59% of of the votes. Howarter told the Anderson County review that he was shocked and didn’t see it coming. He thought Mersman got a boost from motivated Republican straight ticket voters and from a larger number of mail in ballots. County Clerk, Julie Wettstien, says Anderson County voters had a turnout of just over 64%, which was a bit lower than she expected, but still a greater turn out for an election than any she remembered.

Anderson County updated their COVID 19 numbers yesterday. There are 37 active cases in the County with 5 hospitalizations reported so far. The County has had 338 total cases since the pandemic began. Surrounding counties have Allen County with 83 active, Bourbon County with 91, Woodson with 9, Linn County with 28, and Franklin County with 222. Health Officials are urging everyone to be more vigilant in protecting themselves and others. They say wearing a mask is more important than ever to help curb the spread of the virus.
