The Anderson County Commission Meeting will be held this morning at the Community Building in North Lake Parks. This, in expectation that there may be an overflow crowd. The Commission will be discussing Governor Kelly’s Order issued last week requiring face masks. the County opted out of her Order in July; however, since then the number of COVID 19 cases in the County has gone up dramatically, leading to tighter restrictions at Anderson County Hospital and other places.
The latest update from the County on COVID came on Friday, when they reported 30 current cases, with five hospitalizations and 355 total cases since the pandemic began.
Governor Kelly says the order is necessary to curb the spread of the virus across the State. Kansas has been deemed a hotspot for the virus in the United States with nearly 35,000 cases and 1,400 deaths associated with it. A surge in the last few weeks has many worried even further about stopping it.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 9:00 this morning; however, according to the City of Garnett Website, the portion of the meeting to talk about the Order will not begin until about 10:30.
