The City of Osawatomie Water System recently experienced a protocol violation. After testing in mid June, they had levels of total haloacetic acids slightly above drinking water standards. This is not an emergency situation and the City of Osawatomie says there have been steps taken to correct the problem. The levels were slightly over the recommended levels and posed no threat to customers, if so, they would have notified people immediately. However, due to customer service and an abundance of transparency, they wanted people to be aware.
Staff have been actively feeding carbon to the receiving water, trapping the organic matter and settling it out before it is allowed to proceed through the treatment and into the disinfection process. If you have any health concerns, please consult your doctor. Any questions can be directed to Osawatomie City Manager, Mike Scanlon.
