If you have been wondering about the status of Luigi’s Italian Restaurant in Downtown Ottawa and if they plan to reopen, the answer is yes; however, Manager Kristin Randal says it will take a little longer than expected. The fire on October 27th was discovered by employees the next day, who say the fire protection hood system had extinguished the fire. The Ottawa Fire Department confirmed there was a fire that caused significant damage in the kitchen. It was contained to the stove and grease hood system. A preliminary assessment of the damage was estimated to be $50,000.
Randall says, as they have assessed the damage, it was worse than expected and renovation to the building and cleaning is expected to take a few more months. She says Luigi’s should be able to reopen sometime in March.
