A crash and vehicle fire in Miami County last night left one person dead. Crews responded to reports of a car on fire in the area of 359th and Harmony roads around 9:30. When emergency personnel arrived on scene they found the vehicle, off the roadway in a ditch, fully engulfed. Due to the extreme heat, they were unable to get close to the vehicle until the flames had been extinguished.
Once the fire was out, they found a deceased person inside the vehicle. According to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, they are unable to make a positive identification on the person in the car and efforts are being made to establish identification.
According to the release, the vehicle was traveling east on 359th from Harmony, when it went off the roadway to the right and struck a culvert, stopping the vehicle. The exact cause of the fire is not known.
The Miami County Sheriff is asking for anyone who may have seen the crash or have any information about it to contact them as soon as possible.
