The fire yesterday at 517 Willow completely destroyed a two story home. The call came in at 8:22, stating a person was trapped on the roof. Ottawa Police arrived first and assisted the man from the roof and fire crews were on the scene in about three minutes and found heavy fire throughout the first floor and half of the second floor. Fire Chief Tim Mathias says this fire was unusual for Ottawa:
All four of Ottawa’s fire trucks were on scene to fight the fire, including Tower One, shooting water down from the top. Mathias says the last time tower one was used at a fire in Ottawa was the Pinnacle fire in January of this year. He called the truck an incredible asset to have.
Demolition of the house began yesterday, taking down the outside walls to prevent further collapse.
