The biggest story of the year, Nationwide, is of course the COVID 19 Pandemic; however, there were some good things happening in Mimi County. One of the biggest stories out of Osawatomie involved the opening and ribbon cutting of the Flint Hills Trail, Eastern Terminus. Governor Kelly spoke at the Ribbon Cutting on October 7th. Known as “Mile Zero”, the trailhead saw massive improvements to the trail for pedestrians, cyclists and, even horse enthusiasts who want to enjoy riding the trail from Miami County Westward.

Kelly called the trail one of the most unique in the Nation, bringing together landowners, counties and trail users for a common purpose, adding incredible value to the communities and businesses this trail touches along the way,

Doug Walker, Vice President of the Kanza Rails-Trails Conservancy, an Osawatomie resident and former State Senator, was credited for being the guiding influence in establishing the Rail-Trail. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony included the unveiling of a sign at Mile Zero designating it “Walker Station”, in his honor.
