A Miami County Sheriff’s Department Deputy escaped serious injury early Sunday morning when his patrol car struck a deer on 247th Street, northwest of the Hillsdale Lake. The Kansas Highway Patrol says at 12:19 that morning, Deputy Mitchell A. Talley of Osawatomie, was eastbound on an emergency run when a deer ran in front of his cruiser. The vehicle was disabled. Deputy Talley was taken to the Miami County Medical Center at Paola to be examined and treated. The Highway Patrol described Talley as suffering a suspected minor injury. The Deputy was wearing his safety restraint.
Also disclosed was that Deputy Talley was responding for backup to assist another Deputy who was pursuing a suspect in a car chase. No details were given regarding the conclusion of that chase by the second officer.
The damaged Patrol Car was towed to the Sheriff’s Department in Paola.
