It was a good year for the Garnett Airport and projects to improve the facility continue this year. According to Airport Manager, Pat Schettler, the Fueling Apron Project, after several setbacks, got underway and is almost complete. The contractors got all the site work concrete placed and asphalt laid down and they will be finishing the final dirt work and cleanup soon. Schettler says it looks very nice and is a great improvement, as the previous apron asphalt had mostly turned to black gravel. They also milled and replaced the asphalt on the taxiway and replaced or sealed the cracked areas on the actual runway. All the projects were either completely paid for by the FAA, or at most, a 10% City Share on the small repairs. The airport also received a new Courtesy Car to replace the nearly 40 year old car they were using. Auburn Pharmacy owner, Mike Burs, donated a Chevy HHR, which will give a better first impression to transient pilots as they go into town to do business or grab a meal.
The airport is definitely looking good and Schettler says people are always welcome to visit and check for activities on their Facebook Page..
