Big changes are possibly coming to the City owned ballfields in Wallace Park in Paola. Sales Tax Revenue would be used for the improvements. One option presented is to construct a four field complex, including lights, full field turf, scoreboards, batting cages, bleachers, backstops, dugouts, bases and all applicable field design elements. Total cost up to$2.8 million.

The proposed designs were selected because they would benefit the most amount of youths, with areas included for soccer and flag football, in addition to baseball and softball fields. Paola Youth Sports Volunteers, Justin Smail, says improving the ballfields would also be a positive move for the city in terms of economic development. He said Paola would be able to host tournaments that would bring people to town and the fields turf would likely prevent the events from being canceled due to weather.
