Another nominee for the Garnett Chamber Awards Organization of the Year is the Garnett Lions Club. Founded in 1938, the Lions Club has had a positive impact on the Community ever since. Their drop box for used eyeglasses and recyclables at Goeppert State Bank, the concession stand they built for the Garnett swimming pool, and providing the Historic Santa Fe Caboose that sits north of the Depot.
The Lions Club was involved in the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Races from the late 1950’s to the 1970’s and, most recently launched the Kansas Dual Sport Safari, which has grown quickly to be the largest single day dual sport ride in Kansas. They provide scholarships, send kids to state events and, assist with eyeglasses when a family can’t afford them. They say they haven’t done it alone. Many people help. For instance, when you buy a hamburger or a pop from the yellow concession trailer at the fair, or other events, you make a difference. The awards will be given at the Banquet Thursday evening.
