The Osawatomie USD 367 School Board has voted to delay payment of the District’s excessive February natural gas bill, which covered charges for extreme cold events that month.
The District received a bill of nearly $50,000 for February from Symmetry Energy Solutions. The District’s January bill was $11,000,by comparison. USD 367 is a member of K-JUMP, the Kansas Association of School Boards Energy Purchasing Consortium. They have retained legal counsel to assist the member districts dealing with the elevated prices. Their recommendation to all K-JUMP member school districts was not to pay the bill at this time.
Symmetry has agreed to a 30 day “Stay” on bills to give districts time to make decisions. Superintendent Justin Burchett says the Board voted to join the legal action and only pay a certain amount while contesting the remaining balance. Well over 200 school districts across the State have done the same.
