State Representative Mark Samsel, was arrested on charges of Misdemeanor Battery Thursday, following an altercation with a Wellsville High School Student Samsel was released on $1,000 Bond after being booked into the Franklin County Detention Center.
According to a report in the Kansas City Star, Samsel, who was serving as a substitute teacher, was recorded Wednesday, talking with students about suicide, sex, masturbation, God and the Bible. Videos shared with the Star showed Samsel focusing attention on one male student, eventually grabbing him and telling him “You’re about ready to anger me and get the wrath of God. Do You believe me when I tell you that God has been speaking to me?” Samsel then allegedly kneed the student in the crotch, before apologizing and telling the student he could go to the nurse. In a snapchat post, Samsel wrote that the incident was planned with the students to send a message to parents, grandparents and all of Wellsville about art, mental health, teenage suicide and how we treat our educators and one another.
USD 289 Superintendent, Ryan Bradbury, said that Samsel will no longer be allowed to work for the District.
