The Ottawa City Commission has approved a Proclamation recognizing May 9th through 14th as Police Week. In accepting the Proclamation, Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, reminisced about this last year:
Weingartner says many law enforcement officers have died as the result of what happened on September 11, 2001. Many people have succumbed to cancer in the wake of working on the collapsed World Trade Center. Weingartner says those deaths will no doubt continue for some time to come. Weingartner says he and several others will hold a barbecue net week to feed his officers as a way of marking police week.
