Two big bridge projects start this week. First KDOT expects to start a project to replace the K-33 overpass over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway at Wellsville, on Monday. The bridge is one mile north of I-35. The new bridge will be built on an offset alignment east of the current structure. Traffic will be carried through the work zone during construction. Weather permitting, the project should be finished by September 2022.
On Wednesday, KDOT plans to begin a repair project on the K-68 bridge spanning at the Marais Des Cygnes River at Ottawa. Project activity includes patching and an overlay on the bridge deck, replacing the expansion joints and resetting the bearings.
So, if your daily travels take you to the K-33 overpass at Wellsville or the K-68 bridge in Ottawa, you might want to change your route.
