If you want to run for a school, board position or a seat on a city governing body in the upcoming November election, time is running out to file for those positions. June 1st is the deadline to file for several open positions. One seat up for election is Garnett Mayor, currently held by Jody Cole. She told the Anderson County Review she plans to refile, saying the City has some projects she would like to see through.
Garnett City Commissioners are the only officials to be elected in this off year election, who are compensated. Seats up for the USD 365 School Board include those presently held by Michael Richards in District 4, Sonya Martin in District 5 and Gina Witherspoon, District 6. Terms on the Board are four years.
In Crest USD 479, seats in District 4, 5 and 6 will be up for election. Crest Board Terms are four years also. City Council elections will also be held in Greeley, Kincaid, Colony, Richmond and Westphalia. Town Council Electors face the same June 1 filing deadline.
So, if you are thinking about running, you have just over two weeks to finalize your decision and file.
