The Rural Mainstreet Economic Index has rocketed a record high, showing positive growth for the sixth straight month. The Overall Index for May jumped to a record high of 78.8 from April’s very health 69.0. Anything above 50 represents growth. Creighton Economist Ernie Goss says that strong grain prices, the Federal Reserve’s low interest rates and growing exports, have spurred the economy. He does say that even with the growth, Rural Economic Activity is still below pre-pandemic levels. the Index for Farming and Ranching has eight straight months of growth.
The Kansas Rural Mainstreet Index for May expanded to 83.8 from 72.2 in April. The State’s Farmland-Price Index climbed to 80.6 from April’s 80.2
