The Anderson County Veteran’s Memorial Project has been underway since 2011, both public and privately funded and features two high tech touch screen kiosks capable of presenting names, photos and other digital data on 5,000 veterans whose names have been collected or submitted for the project. Since that database is digitally updatable, veteran records can be updated at anytime.
Monday’s Dedication Ceremony for the County Veterans Memorial begins at 7:00 that evening and features music from the Community Band, Military Honors, the Laying of a Wreath at the Memorial and a Keynote Speech from Iraq War Veteran, Dave Sterling, who is a Purple Heart Recipient that lives in Iola.
They are also offering the public the chance to help out with the cost of the new Anderson County Veterans Memorial, located on the corner of the Anderson County Courthouse lawn. Anyone can buy an engraved brick to be put on display outside the Memorial. Contact the Anderson County Clerk, Julie Wettstien for more information.
