It has been a rough couple of weeks when it comes to big events in Garnett and Anderson County. Rain, rain and… more rain hit the area and a lot of the time , coming poorly timed. First, the Garnett Air Fair was cancelled, then the Celebration of Service for the City’s Patriotic Banner Program. Rain rescheduled local graduations to indoors and, finally, the postponement of the Dedication Ceremony for the Anderson County Veteran’s Memorial.
Over eight inches of ran fell in the Anderson County area in May. Average rainfall for the month is about five and a half inches. With that rain, comes unexpected emergencies, including a water rescue on Trego Road on May 21st. County Fire Chief, Mick Brinkmeyer says four people were stranded in the back of a pickup in about four to five feet of water on the flooded road. They were rescued without incident or injury
