More details are emerging on the house fire in Wellsville Sunday morning. The Wellsville Fire Department had only a skeleton crew of two and, upon arriving on the scene in the 400 block of East 8th, they reported heavy black smoke and flames coming from the single story structure. They were able to get water flowing on the structure in a defensive mode, through the east windows of the house.
Numerous neighboring departments also answered the call, including Cutler, LOH and Johnson County District One. The Ottawa Fire Department also deployed the new Mobile Rehab and Air Trailer to the scene; not only to provide relief for the firefighters, but also make sure air tanks could be refilled as needed.
The house is a total loss, however, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The couple living in the house was assisted by the Red Cross and various Wellsville Community Organizations.
