A tragic accident on the Neosho River, near the Burlington City Dam, has left three people dead, including two small children. Multiple agencies responded to a report of a boat accident on the Neosho River in the area of the Burlington City Dam on Saturday, evening around 6:30.
A family of two adults and two children were boating on the river. As the boat approached the low head-dam, it stalled in fast moving, turbulent water and the operator lost control of the vessel, went over the dam, flipped and the whole family was thrown out of the boat.
A man identified as Wesley Sharp of Shawnee, was rescued from the scene and transported to Burlington Hospital and is currently in stable condition. However, his wife, Maribel Moran and the couple’s two children, ages three and five, were recovered unresponsive at the scene and transported to Burlington Hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Law Enforcement is responsible for investigating all boating accidents that result in fatalities. They ask that anyone with information about this accident to contact them immediately.
