Last night around 9:30, a 911 call came into Franklin County Dispatch about a possible structure fire on North Main. The Ottawa Fire Department and Ottawa Police Department responded to the scene at 832 North Main, on the southwest corner of Main and Blackhawk Streets and, upon arrival, found smoke rolling out of a two story home. Fire crews went to work and were able to extinguish the fire.
This is the second fire at the same residence in the past year and half. In January of 2020, a family of seven was displaced by an early morning fire at that address. At that time, Fire Chief Tim Mathias said there were no working smoke detectors in the home. If two of the occupants had not been up playing video games, the outcome could have been tragic.
Utilities to the home have been shut off and the house vacant since the fire last year. There was no immediate cause of the fire released, or an assessment of the damage done in the fire last night.
