More information on the fire in Ottawa last night. Ottawa Fire, LOH Fire, Ottawa Police and Franklin County EMS were dispatched to 832 North Main for a structure fire at 9:49 that night. The two story home had heavy smoke coming from the second floor and roof. Upon entry, they encountered very high heat and zero visibility, but knocked down the fire. A fire investigator from the Kansas Fire Marshals Office was on scene today conducting an investigation, along with Ottawa Fire Investigators. There are no damage estimates at this time.

Fire Chief Tim Mathias says an Ottawa firefighter was transported to Advent Ottawa for heat related issues, fortunately the firefighter was treated and released.

This is the second fire at the same residence in the past year and half. In January of 2020 a family of seven was displaced by an early morning fire. At that time, Fire Chief Tim Mathias said there were no working smoke detectors in the home, and if two of the occupants had not been up playing video games, the outcome could have been tragic. Utilities to the home have been shut off and the house vacant since the fire last year.
